The usual rules:
1. Comment to this entry saying - 'Today we're cancelling the apocalypse' - and I will pick 3 of your icons/userpics.
2. Make an entry in your own journal (or just reply if you prefer) and talk about the icons I picked!
Meme stolen from luppiters
who picked these three icons:
1. Captain Holt, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
This was for a bingo challenge entry
, a comm that I always find I push myself creatively for, mainly because of the elite aspect to it. That particular icon was a 'free choice' theme, and the screencap from from an episode that had only aired a couple of months previously (I won't say which one because spoilers) and I had watched recently and loved Holt's incredible collection of novelty t-shirts. That screencap
was extra fun and just begged to be made into an unusual upside-down subject icon, so I cut him out, used another screencap that showed the t-shirt in better and more full detail as the background, just to really showcase the excellence of the t-shirt, and did my usual method of matching the background colour to the subject's clothing.
2. Hogwarts, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
This was my entry for the final challenge of the finale rumble
, an amazing and inspiring and truly creative community that I was so sad to see the back of and wished hadn't ended so soon (I don't think the results of that battle were ever posted sadly). It was another comm where I really pushed myself creatively, because the rumbles in particular were so rewarding with the concrit aspect as well as voting, and the competition was insanely good. You got extra points for making an icon that fit multiple themes - one theme was to icon something really nostalgic to you, and the Harry Potter series (books and films) were such a fundamental part of my childhood that I will always feel incredible sentimental and nostalgic about, you had to use the community's staple font Impact somehow, there were a number of blue and yellow colour combination icons in the example post, and you had to use a past Icon of the Month winner as inspiration for your colour palette so I used the November 2015 colour palette (this winning icon
and this insp post
3. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life
This was one of my earliest icons in 2018, and was voted my best icon of 2018 at bestof_icons
. It was one of a 20in20 set
for a Winter Solstice
challenge at theseasonwheel
, yet another hugely inspirational comm that I sorely miss and really pushed myself with, especially on this set. You could pick Easy/Normal/Hard mode and although I started out doing Easy Mode I found myself wanting to challenge myself a bit more so was going to go for the Normal Mode and actually make some complex icons for once, and then the four sub-themes
were just so inspiring and perfect for the fandom that I ended up going for the Hard Mode. That particular icon was inspired by the themes/sub-themes 'traced in constellations' and 'complex', and the whole set was for my latest obsession, Gilmore Girls, which I had binge-watched in its entirely including the revival mini-series in an embarassingly short space of time at the end of 2017. The revival also very helpfully had four episodes, Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, so this icon was appropriately from the Winter episode. It was also my first 20in20 set (or really any bit set for one challenge) in a long time, and I was super proud of how it turned out, especially the text icons like this one because that was something I had set as a resolution to work on for 2018, so I was really pleased my hard work seemed to pay off.
